In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the field of cybersecurity, Dr. Osei Bonsu Dickson has been awarded the Distinguished Cybersecurity Personality of the Year at the 6th National Communications Awards.

The prestigious ceremony, held at the Marriot Hotel, Accra, on Saturday night, celebrated individuals and organizations that have demonstrated excellence and innovation in Ghana's communications and technology sectors. Dr. Dickson's recognition underscores his influential role in shaping cybersecurity law and policy in Africa and around the world.

“I am honored to receive this award,” Dr. Dickson said during an interview with reporters. “This recognition is testament to the collective efforts of many stakeholders committed to advancing cybersecurity regulatory law, and policy, in particular, the protection of our digital ecosystem.”

A Leader in Cybersecurity Law and Policy

Dr. Dickson is widely regarded as a leading authority in cybersecurity law and policy. In 2024, he was named among the Global Top 100 Cybersecurity Thought-Leaders and Influencers, distinguishing him as the sole African lawyer in the Top 50.

His expertise has been instrumental in addressing complex cybersecurity challenges and fostering collaborative solutions to safeguard critical information systems.

Since 2021, Dr. Dickson has served as the Chairman of CyberX Africa, the continent's largest cybersecurity incident response conference.

Under his leadership, the conference has become a pivotal platform for discussing emerging threats, sharing best practices, and promoting capacity-building among cybersecurity professionals across Africa.

He has served as both speaker and moderator at numerous international cyber conferences.

Dr. Dickson has held several key positions including Chief Legal Advisor at the National Security Council Secretariat and Director roles in Legal, Policy, and Security Governance at the Ministry of National Security.

On the international front, Dr. Dickson's expertise has been sought after and celebrated.

In 2023, the National Prosecution Authority of Zambia honored him with a plaque of recognition for his significant contributions to building cybercrime response capacities among Zambian Public Prosecutors in Livingstone, Lusaka.

Similar accolades from Uganda and various African nations highlight his commitment to elevating cybersecurity standards across the continent.

Dr. Dickson's academic credentials are equally impressive. He has earned degrees from the University of Ghana, the Ghana School of Law, Harvard University, and Rushford Business School. In 2024, he was invited as the Harvard Berkman Klein Honorary Guest Speaker at Harvard Law School, where he shared insights on global cybersecurity governance and legal frameworks.

As Chairman of Cyber Law & Policy at Lex Mundus & Cencla PRUC, Dr. Dickson oversees the largest cyber law internship program in Ghana, mentoring the next generation of legal experts in navigating the complexities of digital security.

He is also an active member of esteemed organizations such as the New York State Dispute Resolution Association and the London Court of International Arbitration, contributing to the advancement of cyber law and arbitration policies worldwide.
