EB-ACCION adjudged the best Micro Finance Institution in Africa

Accra, Oct. 5, GNA - EB-ACCION Savings and Loans Company Limited, has been adjudged the best micro finance institution and project of the year in Africa at the African Bankers Awards held in Washington in the United States.

The awards being organised by African Banker Magazine and IC Events, is designed to recognise the reforms, rapid modernisation, consolidation, integration and expansion of Africa's banking and financial system, as well as celebrate excellence and best practices in African banking.

It is a landmark annual event for African banking that takes place during the International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings.

EB-ACCION, a micro finance joint venture between Ecobank, ACCION Investments SPC and the IFC, was established in March 2008 and has since rolled out more than seven branches in Ghana with a client base of over 60,000.

Mrs Frances Adu-Mante, Managing Director of EB-ACCION, who commented on the awards in Accra, said “Being adjudged the best in Africa is a tribute to the loyal customers and a testimony of the innovative products and services EB-ACCION offers to its customers.”

She said the savings and loans company had consistently applied innovation in the effort to create convenient and tailored banking for the unbanked, under-banked and low income earners, a move that earned it the award.

Mrs Adu-Mante, who was in Washington to receive the award, commended customers of EB-ACCION for keeping faith with the company, stressing it would endeavour to promote their interests.

EB-ACCION has been providing secured savings, quick loan delivery and other services to mainly the low income and the unbanked through the most convenient channels.

It also offers Point of Sale (POS) deposit collections, SMS Alerts, Business Advisory, and Western Union Money Transfer payments.

Mr Hubert Dake, Deputy Managing Director of EB-ACCION said the award was due to the hard work and dedication of the staff and encouraged them to keep up the good work.

He said management would continue to roll out new products and services to meet the needs of its customers, adding “It is also the practice of EB-ACCION to constantly groom its customers from the micro enterprise level into bigger businesses”.

Mr Dake therefore encouraged traders and other micro enterprise operators to join the EB-ACCION family and benefit from its unique products and services.
