The Tema Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has replaced 14 faulty transformers across six districts within its operational area as part of efforts to improve electricity supply reliability.

The replacements, carried out between October 28 and November 1, 2026, involved transformers with capacities ranging from 100kVA to 200kVA, which had developed faults and were affecting electricity supply to customers.

The exercise was aimed at strengthening the Region's distribution network and improving power supply to affected communities.

The Tema Region operates across nine districts, with the replacement exercise covering six: Krobo, Ada, Prampram, Afienya, Tema North and Nungua.

Commenting on the exercise, the Tema Regional General Manager, Ing. Jonathan K. Adjabeng, said faulty transformers had contributed to electricity supply challenges in some communities.

"We have had challenges with supply due to faulty transformers, some of which became faulty due to technical challenges and illegal connections," he said.

He reaffirmed the Region's commitment to providing safe, reliable and quality , despite challenges affecting its operations.

"The Region takes its mandate of supplying safe, reliable and quality electricity seriously, and we are committed to that," he said.

Ing. Adjabeng added that although some of the challenges were beyond the company's control, ECG remained committed to addressing them.

"However, our commitment to our duty is sometimes hindered by issues beyond our control, yet our commitment to resolve issues and surmount challenges remains paramount to us," he said.
