The Electricity Company of Ghana has reportedly blocked more than 15,000 electricity meters in the Nsawam and Amasaman areas as part of a revenue assurance exercise.

The action, carried out over the past two weeks by ECG’s project unit, targets meters believed to have been acquired outside the company’s approved procedures.

Sources indicate that the move is aimed at addressing revenue losses incurred due to unapproved or improperly documented meter installations.

Affected customers have been asked to report to ECG’s project unit office located behind the VVIP bus terminal at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle area in Accra’s Central Business District.

As a result of the blockage, customers in these areas are unable to top up their credit once the existing credit on the metre runs out, thereby creating inconvenience for the customer

To have their meters restored, customers are required to pay a combination of administrative and processing fees.

Breakdown of Charges

The fees include:

Administrative charge: GH¢600, Application fee: GH¢100, Quotation fee: GH¢1,353.50

This brings the total cost for reconnection to approximately GH¢2,053.60 per customer.

The exercise forms part of ECG’s broader efforts to recover lost revenue and ensure compliance with its operational guidelines.

The company is expected to continue monitoring and enforcing regulations to prevent further irregularities in metre acquisition and usage.
