ECG demands increment in electricity tariffs

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is demanding 0.36% increment in electricity tariffs from the current 0.22% per kilowatt hour which was approved by Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) in 2015.

Mr. Ebenezer Baiden, who is the General Manager in charge of Regulatory and Governance Affairs the ECG disclosed this at a joint stakeholders consultative forum meeting with utility companies.

The meeting is a platform for the utility companies to present key highlights of their tariff proposals to the Regulator for consideration and approval or disapproval.

The meeting is also supposed to address issues of quality of service utility companies renders to consumers.

Mr Ebenezer Baiden cited the huge operations cost as a result of the exchange rate, private power producers cost, fuel cost and other expenses to justify their demand.
