The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has assured the general public and consumers of uninterrupted power supply after reports emerged indicating the government's conclusion of negotiations with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to settle outstanding debt payments.
This comes after some IPPs operating in the country recently threatened to shut down operations over these outstanding debt payments, which could affect energy security.
The External Communications Manager of the ECG, Nii Ayiku, mentioned that the negotiations with the IPPs will result in curtailing a potential power crisis commonly known as "dumsor."
"We are engaging with the IPPs to ensure that the outages experienced over the weekend won't continue. It is not just about the IPPs having issues with the ECG. As indicated by the Acting Management Director, we are fully engaged with the IPPs, and we are confident that everything will fall into place," the ECG communications manager said.
Meanwhile, the government is reported to have a temporary agreement with the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) who have threatened to shut down their respective power plants over outstanding debt payments.
Stakeholders in the energy sector have also called for a more sustainable financial framework to prevent future disputes and protect Ghana's energy security and infrastructure.
