ECG promises stable power in Ashanti Region

The construction works on a second bulk power supply scheduled to be completed within four months will improve the energy situation in Kumasi, says Mr Alex Boamah, Ashanti East Regional Engineer of Electricity Company of Ghana.

This, he said, would ensure reliable and uninterrupted power to consumers in the metropolis.

Mr Boamah, who was addressing a meeting of the Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo Regional Zone of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) in Kumasi, said there are plans to build a third supply point.

The meeting was held to discuss the effects of the current power disruption on businesses in the two regions.

The Regional Engineer spoke of other on-going projects, including the fixing of redundant circuits, construction of sub-stations, upgrading of feeders and reinforcement of existing networks.

The situation where the region has over the years relied on just a single supply point amidst growing demands by the population is to blame for the frequent interruption, he said.

He gave the assurance that the company would continue to engage stakeholders to find lasting solutions to the energy crisis.

Mr Robert Kwakye Nketia, the AGI Zonal Manager, said members are going through difficulties because of the energy problem.

He appealed to the ECG to speed up work on the power projects to save the local industries.
