The management of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has revealed that the company is considering the introduction of recharge cards for customers using prepaid meters.

The reforms will also usher in the payment of electricity bills using mobile money. These measures are expected to improve efficiency and ease of transactions between customers and the state power distributor.

This was revealed by the Western regional Commercial Manager of the company, Alex Anwobor, in Takoradi on Monday October 3.

“We are considering introducing scratch cards where customers can buy at any point and time to recharge their credit balance. We are also considering using the mobile money platform to pay for bills. They are at the consideration stages for now,” he noted.

In addition to these, is also considering the introduction of “emergency credits that can later be deducted at their next recharge” for customers whose credit get used up at odd times.

ECG is also considering partnering fuel companies to have credits sold at these outlets to ensure round-the-clock sale of power.
