The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will on Monday release a document detailing in monetary terms, how much each electricity consumer is expected to get from the tariff reduction announced in March.

The leaflet, to be published on the company’s website and in newspapers, will simplify the percentages to be enjoyed by the four categories of electricity consumers in the country, Public Affairs Director of the ECG, William Boateng, told Onua FM Wednesday.

He told host of Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa, Bright Kwasi Asempa that they were currently working on the calculations which will tell consumers how much they will be saving in electricity bills.

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) on March 5 announced a 17.5 per cent reduction in electricity tariff for residential consumers and 30 per cent for non-residential users.

A 25 per cent reduction was announced for Special Load Tariff Consumers and 10 per cent for mining companies in the country.

Though the reduction was required to take effect from Thursday March 15, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at an emergency news conference on the eve of the big day announced it cannot implement the new tariff regime on the set date.

It cited billing system challenges as the reason.

The ECG assured that it would credit consumers the arrears from March 15 when it begins the implementation on April 1.

Mr. Boateng explained Wednesday that the leaflet to be published “will be a simple table for all to understand and it will be posted in our district offices, customers service centers for all to see… It will bring understanding”.
