Hundreds of workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have issued a one week ultimatum to their mother union (Trades Union Congress) to ensure that their Managing Director steps down or face their wrath.
The over five hundred workers Monday morning picketed at the office of the company and subsequently presented their concerns to TUC.
The ECG workers are demanding the immediate removal of Mr. Robert Dwamena because his retirement was due last month.
Emmanuel Appou, the Chairman of the Senior Staff Union of ECG at Tema in an interview with Starr News after presenting the concerns of the workers said the MD is past retirement and must be impressed upon to go home.
“The policy is that every employee retires at the age of 60 and our MD was 60 on the 28th of September and we feel he has done enough so he should retire.”
According to Appou, the continuous stay of the MD in office is preventing other managers from being promoted.
“We have a lot of managers who are vying for that position and if one man overstays it creates chaos downstream, anybody who has been an MD retires at 60 so why is he not going.”
Workers of ECG have been in the news in recent months over the privatization of the company.
