Accra, July 10, GNA - ECOBANK is set to issue a credit card in the country on Tuesday to further ease financial transactions across the country, following the heels of a redenomination exercise which seeks to address the problem of carrying huge sums of physical cash. Briefing the Ghana News Agency Business Desk in Accra about the new card, Mr Rami Baitie, Corporate Affairs Manager of ECOBANK, explained that the credit card was open and available to non-ECOBANK customers and could be used at points of sale throughout the country and in any part of the world.

"We are very pleased to be the first to come out with this facility and it is purely out of our desire to not only be there for our customers, but to deepen financial processes and procedures in Ghana, by ensuring that in this age and time, Ghanaians can join the large number of customers already benefiting from such a service in their home countries."

ECOBANK, a pan-African bank with branches in 13 West African states, is one of the major models for regional integration and cooperation.

Mr Baitie said it would ease the amount of money people could carry on them, stressing "all they need to do is to call at our branches, provide details about themselves and we would follow up at their banks for their bank history. When this is completed, they would be issued with a card with all the details enclosed."

The ECOBANK Group has become an established regional banking institution. The Group employs more than 6,000 professionals from West and Central Africa, and from other African and non-African countries with a network of more than 320 branches and offices in 18 countries of West and Central Africa.

ECOBANK already offers internationally recognized cards such as the Visa Electron and the Master card as well as a Regional Card. On offer are credit and debit cards that provide global financial empowerment with access to all Visa and MasterCard branded electronic point of sale (POS) terminals and ATMs worldwide.

With an ECOBANK card one can have 24-hour access to banking services and pay for services at merchant points displaying the Visa, MasterCard or Ecobank signs.

ECOBANK already has the ECOBANK Regional Cards in Benin, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Mali, Niger, Guinea, Senegal and Togo; ECOBANK Visa Electron Card in Ghana and the ECOBANK Master Card which operates in Nigeria.
