A Day's seminar to up-date employer's knowledge on the policies and procedures of the Security and National Insurance Trusat (SSNIT) to enable them discharge their obligations under the Pension Law has been hald at Elmina.
Organised by the SSNIT, the seminar also afforded the trust 's management the opportunity to learn of the problems of the employers and workers and to discuss issues including payment of workers' contributions. Mr H. Q. Jehu- Appiah, Deputy Central Regional Minister, who opened the seminar for about 150 public and private employers, said some employers in the region had defaulted in the payment of contributions deducted from workers' salaries. Mr Jehu-Appiah said the government had thorugh progressive policies, created an enabling environment for the future well-being of the worker and also for SSNIT to invest workers' contributions to generate profit to pay workers pensions.
He commended SSNIT for building houses for workers in the districts, adding that two district capitals, Breman Asikuma and Twifo Praso, had been earmarked for the SSNIT's district housing project in the Central Region.
He described the two districts capitals as 'distressed' in the region because they had not been able to attract and retain public servants posting due to the lack of suitable residential accommodation. On tourism, the Minister was impressed by the attention SNNIT was giving to the sector to boost its development generally in the country, and particulary in the central Region.
Mr Eric Adjei, General Manager of SNNIT (Operations) said there was the need for employers to pay contributions promptly and warned that any employer who defaulted was 'toying' with the future of his employees and must not go unpunished.
he assured workers that their furture is secured as far as they contribute to the trust. 'Our aim is to ensure that workers have the peace of mind to enable them work peacefully to enhance productivity.
