Education on re-denomination of the cedi intensifies in Tamale

Tamale, June 22, GNA - The Ghana Shippers' Council and the Ladies' Association of the Volta River Authority (VRA) have organised separate forums in the Tamale Metropolis on Thursday to educate the public on the re-denomination of the cedi.

Mr. Eric Koranteng, Re-denomination Steering Committee member from the Bank of Ghana, told members of the Ghana Shippers' Council from the Upper East and the Northern regions that the value of the new Ghana cedi would not affect their international business transactions. He advised business persons to keep pace with the re-denomination exercise and should position themselves in accepting the new currency. Mr. Emmanuel Martey, the Deputy Chief Executive of the Ghana Shippers' Council said it was necessary for people in the business community to be educated on the re-denomination of the cedi so that they could keep pace with international business transactions.

Mr. Jacob Tei Kudah, an official from the Bank of Ghana, spoke to the VRA ladies of the Northern Electricity Department (NED) and their customers on the cedi re-denomination. Mrs. Lucy Perbi-Nyarko, who educated customers of VRA on the billing system, said there would be two receipts issued to customers depending on which currency that would be used for payment. She said buying of credits for the prepaid meters would be transacted as in the old way and that the machines would also be readjusted to accept transactions with the new currency.
