Ekow Afedzie replaces retiring Kofi Yamoah as Acting GSE MD

Ekow Afedzie is to replace Kofi S. Yamoah, who is due for retirement in October, as acting Managing Director of the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE), effective August 1, 2019.

A statement from the GSE announcing the change, explained that Mr. Afedzie brings on board, over 20 years of experience in capital market, having worked with the local bourse since its inception in 1990.

Before his elevation, Mr Afedzie was the Deputy Managing Director of the GSE, a position he has held since 2009.

He also previously served as Head of Marketing, Research and Systems, and as General Manager.

Mr. Afedzie holds a Master’s Degree in Businesses Administration and a Master of Arts Degree in Economic Policy Management, both from the University of Ghana. He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the Mountcrest University College, Accra.

The statement meanwhile, added that Mr. Yamoah, who served the Exchange in various capacities, including as Presiding Officer on the Trading Floor, Financial Controller, Senior Manager in charge of Operations and General Manager, will take a terminal leave from August 1, 2019.

“The Exchange has, during Mr. Yamoah’s 16-year tenure as Managing Director, undergone significant innovation, notably, the automation of trading and the establishment of the Ghana Alternative Market and the Ghana Fixed Income Market. He was also instrumental in the development of capital market in Ghana,” the statement signed by GSE’ Chairman, Albert Essien, indicated.

He has been MD since 2003 and is credited with leading the transformation of the domestic capital market over the years.

The statement concluded, “The council and the entire staff of the exchange wish him (Mr. Yamoah) the very best in his future endeavours.”
