Electrometer Company (GEM) has deployed over 350,000 credit meters and about 440,000 prepayment meters in several places including Koforidua, Ho, Takoradi, Sekondi, Cape Coast, Kasoa, Accra and Tema.
Mr Obed Solomon, Director of Operations and external relations at GEM, said this during a tour at the company’s new ultra modern facility.
He said the tour was to familiarize the media with GEM’s operations adding that, “we value our relationship with you and are committed to deepening this relationship through constant interaction.”
Mr Duke Nelson, Deputy Director of IT and Projects at GEM, said the company supplies high quality meters such as single-phase credit electromechanical meter, three-phase credit electromechanical meter, single-phase multi-tariff tamper-proof electronic credit meter, three-phased multi tariff tamper-proof electronic credit meter, single phase pre-paid electro-cash meter, three-phased pre-paid electro-cash meter.
He said GEM also undertake supply of prepayment and electromechanical meters, management of smart cards and soft ware of prepayment systems, supply of smart cards for prepayment system, supply of disposable cards for recharging vending stations.
Mr Nelson said through its strategic partner Elsewedy Electrometer, Egypt, GEM has gained the technology, skill and capacity to introduce new generations of electronic meters with modern technologies to the Ghanaian and West African markets adding that Elsewedy Electrometer is ranked the fifth largest meter company in the world in sales value and meters to 70 per cent of all African countries.
He said the company’s certified meters have features including measuring electricity consumption, high accuracy, tamper proof , multi-tariff, meter data collection, revenue collection, network losses measurement, upgradable meter hardware, peak demand monitoring, load limit control, auto billing process, customer self service and on-line control.
“With the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ministry of Energy (MOE) as its stakeholders, GEM directly supplies its products to the ECG after which the ECG directly interfaces with the consumers,” he added.
