The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations in collaboration with the European Union has organised technical assistance training for Labour Inspectors to enhance employment coordination and functions of the ministry.
The training, which was part of the four-year project on National Employment Policy (NEP) funded by the European Union with total budget of EUR 31.6 Million, was to provide support to the ministry to develop and improve the institutional capacities of the staff in order for them to perform their roles and functions effectively.
The project, which started in 2017 and would end in 2021 is aimed at contributing to inclusive growth in Ghana by strengthening social protection and employment systems in the country.
Dr Daryoush Farsimadan, the Team Leader-Policy Advisor of Technical Assistance to Enhance Employment Coordination Functions of the Ministry in an interview with Ghana News Agency at the sidelines of the event in Tamale said the project would improve employment and also deal with decent work deficits, targeting in particular, vulnerable groups, the youth, and women.
He said the economic and employment outcome of the country would be brighter, if the country took advantage of new technologies, increased investment and enhanced capacities through training and skills development.
According to him, the NEP was also expected to increase labour productivity and strengthen governance and labour administration in the country.
He urged the trainers to take the programme seriously to address the country’s unemployment issues.
Mrs Charlotte Hanson, Head of Public Affairs Unit of the Ministry stated that NEP would create gainful and decent employment opportunities for the growing labour force to improve their living conditions and contribute to economic growth for national development within the framework of equity, fairness, security and dignity.
Mr Braimah Ibrahim Dauruda, the Assistant Chief Labour Officer urged the public to assist the Labour Inspectors to do the work appropriately.
He called on employees to take the responsibility to cooperate with the Ministry to address the challenges facing employment situation
