The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations is finalising the National Employment Policy, which will provide the roadmap for job creation.
When the policy is approved by Cabinet, it will pave way for the holding of a job summit later this year.
The sector Minister, Nii Armah Ashietey made the statement at a Stakeholder Consultative Labour Conference for the Northern Sector held in Sunyani, the Brong Ahafo Regional Capital last Tuesday.
The conference attracted Labour Officers within the Northern sector, representatives from the Fair Wages and Salaries and Commission as well as Organised Labour.
He added that the Labour –intensive Public Works Policy and the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Policy will also be finalised this year to facilitate creation of Labour intensive Public jobs and safety at work places.
The minister said he is determined, in line with government’s agenda, to expand opportunities for job seekers to get decent jobs. According to him, this means that policies and initiatives will be geared toward facilitating sustainable employment generation which will then facilitate economic growth and enhanced outcomes.
The minister urged the participants to look at GYEEDA and its modules and how they can link it to skills training institutions and cooperatives so that when it (GYEEDA) is eventually returned to the Employment Ministry, “we shall be in a better position to manage it”.
He reiterated that progress was being made with the development of Labour Market Information Systems (LMIS), which will link employers and job seekers together to interact on a common platform.
“This will not only inform policy and planning, but also create an accurate data base of the employed among all categories of the Ghanaian Society. It will also ensure that new jobs new jobs are accurately recorded and tracked while making it possible to coordinate the various job- creation and employment initiatives,” he said.
Nii Armah Ashietey urged all staff of the Ministry to continuously try to be agents of change in their respective departments and Agencies.
He further advised them to adhere to the Civil Service Code of Ethics to ensure that you serve as role models and give a good image of our sector in the eyes of the general public
