The Minister for Energy Boakye Agyarko has charged the 11 member Board on Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG’s) Electricity Market Oversight Panel (EMOP) to find a lasting solution to the current lapses electricity sector in the country.
The Minister speaking at a short ceremony to inaugurate the board in Accra, mentioned that the Electricity Market Oversight Panel (EMOP) would among others, seeks to monitor the general performance of electricity transmission, ensure smooth and efficient operation of the wholesale electricity market, monitor pre-dispatch schedules and ensure long-term optimization of hydro-electricity supply sources in the country.
He added that the electricity regulations 2008[L.I.1937] which defines a unique wholesale electricity market [WEM] for Ghana has been in existence for over 9 years now.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the board Mr Michael Opam diplomat, who spoke on behalf of all the board members expressed their gratitude to H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for the privilege.
