Entrepreneur calls for long-term plan for energy sector

Mrs Kate Quartey-Papafio, Chief Executive Officer of Reroy Cables Limited, a subsidiary of Reroy Group, has called for a long-term development plan to amicably resolve the power situation in the country.

She said the plan should be incorporated into the country’s development agenda for successive governments to avoid the emergence of politicising pressing national issues.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mrs Quartey-Papafio said the country should be poised to put things in place when the power situation improves as well as be prepared to become the preferred destination for power export.

“The country must think ahead and put in appropriate strategies that will0 forecast prevailing challenges and find lasting solutions to these problems instead of engaging in ad-hoc solution measures,” she added.

Mrs Quartey-Papafio said the improvement in the power supply is a sign of good growth for businesses and urged entrepreneurs to work assiduously to enhance their companies and the nation.

She appealed to the private businesses to take advantage of the power situation and to position themselves to work hard to improve on businesses.

“We need to rebrand Africa and this will be done through partnership by stakeholders in the industry to drive the economy forward.”

Mrs Quartey-Papafio said the extension of the core principles of public-private partnerships into the renewable energy sector is a significant development as these projects are accompanied by extensive skills transfer.
