Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Yofi Grant has expressed shock at the rate at which the youth of Ghana are travelling to foreign lands to seek comfort and greener pastures.

He observed that ‘expatriates’ who come to Ghana to work on contracts feel comfortable working in the country which explains why they end up extending their stay even after their contracts expire.

Speaking at a breakfast meeting in Accra, Mr. Grant said, “Throughout my banking experience, one of my observations is you see a lot of ‘expatriates’ or foreigners come to Ghana and they usually say they will be here for four years, five years on a contract and ten years, fifteen years later, you still see them hanging around.”

According to him, these expatriates are unable to return to their countries because they have identified the numerous business opportunities in the country and believe that Ghana is an easier place to live and do business than any other place in Africa.

“So sometimes when I see a lot of our young people striving to get visas to go out make a living somewhere, I just wonder whether they’ve not been shown the opportunities,” he said.
