FBNBank Ghana Ltd., a subsidiary of First Bank of Nigeria, has extended a hand of support to the Ghana Polio Plus Committee and selected Rotary Clubs in the fight against Polio in Ghana.

The support, which is in the form of a cash donation of GH¢20,000, to help Rotary and its partners roll out a polio immunization exercise in five regions of the country for children between zero months to infants of up to 59 months.

Making the presentation to mark the International Polio Day celebration, Managing Director of FBNBank Ghana, Victor Yaw Asante reiterated the bank’s commitment to promote the health and wellbeing of Ghanaians. ‘

‘FBNBank Ghana a bank that puts our stakeholders at the heart of our business, listens to understand in order to connect with people as a force for good, finds it necessary and worthy to partner Rotary International to tackle head-on, and eradicate Polio in this country and indeed, in the world.

We must all help nip this threat in the bud before it rolls back all the gains achieved over the years.’’

Victor Asante also enjoined Rotary and its partners not to relent in this fight as the re-emergence of the disease poses a health risk to the country. “The re-emergence of Polio in Ghana gives cause for alarm and it also teaches us one important lesson – that, the fight to completely eradicate the disease is not for the faint hearted” he stated.

He emphasized the need for all well-meaning Ghanaians to come on board to support the fight against Polio as the future of the nation is at stake. “We hope by this gesture, other well-meaning players in corporate Ghana will also support the drive to completely eradicate Polio in Ghana once and for all” he added.

Polio, which had not been recorded in Ghana for a decade, recently re-emerged in some communities in the country. Against this backdrop Rotary and its partners have rolled out an immunization plan to vaccinate children across five regions in the country, namely: Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East and Greater Accra regions.

FBNBank’s support will go a long way in ensuring that the exercise reaches every corner of the affected regions.
