Software engineer Farida Bedwei has encouraged young women who are in the technology sector to stop copying what others are doing and rather be innovative.

Speaking at the launch of MTN Girl Code, Farida said there are lots of opportunities to make money and those who think are the once who make it.

She said, “the only people whose names stand out are those who go the extra mile and don’t look at the crowd”.

She told them to keep focus, learn to blend in and set limits as they are in a male-dominated area so they will receive the respect they deserve.

She encouraged them to be problem solvers and not creators as Ghana has enough problems already.

She said, “there was a time that when you’re using a landline to call a mobile phone, you had to pray before you do that because most of the time it couldn’t go through … all those things have been solved and we no longer have those problems. Those were problems that somebody made money from by solving them”.

She added that “there are lots of problems in this country so think of ways of solving them and see how you’ll make money”.

She lauded MTN Ghana and Women in Tech Africa for the initiative to train women in Apps development.
