Nkoranza (B/A) Oct. 26, GNA - Farmers at Adikra-Akyi in Nkoranza in Brong-Ahafo have called for a stable price for maize to boost its production as the current low price of the crop would not encourage farmers.

Mr. Emmanuel Adjei Boateng and Mr. Prosper Kwabena Frimpong, two farmers, who represented the farmers at a meeting at Nkoranza said the price of maize was between 100,000 and 120,000 cedis a bag at the Nkoranza market. They explained that a farmer spent about two million cedis on a hectare of land, including the hiring and clearing of the land, ploughing.

The farmers appealed for the opening of the food distribution depots and asked the government to arrange for the purchase and storage of the crop during bumper harvests at a stable price to help alleviate their plight.

They asked the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to provide more Wreko insecticides to the District Assembly towards the spraying of their farms, which were under attack by armyworms.
