Accra, Dec. 21, GNA - The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning on Wednesday donated items worth 2.5 billion cedis to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Pensions Computations and Payments Section of the Controller and Accountant - General's Department to facilitate the computation pension claims.
Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Finance and Economic Planning Minister, made the donation following a visit he paid to some of the offices of the IRS and the Pensions Computation Section, including those at Kaneshie, Agbobloshie and Makola.
The donation, which included printers, calculators and desktop computers, was in fulfilment of a promise the Minister made to replace obsolete equipment being used by the institutions during his visit to their offices on July 1 2005.
The donation also forms part of recommendations by the Pensions Commission for the Pensions Computations Department to have resources to speed up the processing and payment of pensions. The Minister had earlier made available cameras for the regions for photographs of old people to be taken there instead of they travelling to Accra.
Two personnel from each region are being trained to begin taking the photographs in the regions.
Mr Kwabena Adjei-Mensah, Deputy Controller and Accountant-General in Charge of Financial Management Services, received the donations on behalf of the Pensions Computation Section and said the items would help to eliminate errors in computations. At the moment, the section does the computations manually.
Mr Kwadwo Owusu, Assistant Commissioner of IRS, Greater Accra Zone One, received the items on behalf of the Service.
