Ford Joins Mechanical Lloyd's Stable

Ghanaian auto distributor, Mechanical Lloyd (Mecoy) has clinched a principal-agent agreement with the world's second largest automaker, Ford Motor Company.

The Managing Director of Mechanical Lloyd, Terry Darko, last week received the official Ford "Global Importer Dealer Sales and Services Agreement" from Dawid van der Merwe, District Manager of Ford in charge of sub-Saharan Africa, which gives the Ghanaian company the sole distribution right over the Ford range of vehicles in Ghana.

With this deal, Mechanical Lloyds, the only Ghanaian-owned automobile listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange, expands its stables, which already has the franchise for BMW, Land Rover and Marsey Feguson tractors in Ghana.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mechanical Lloyd, Yaw Manu Sarpong, acknowledged that with the inclusion of Ford into the Mecoy family, the stage is set for the company to strengthen its position in the market place and to provide a one-stop shop for the customers' needs.

He said Ford is being represented in Ghana by a company noted for its range of quality brands and professional after-sales support.

Ford Motor Company is noted for its world-class brand names such as Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover and Mazda.

The company has 112 assembly plants around the world with about 356,000 employees worldwide. Last year, Ford Motor Company sold over 7.4 million vehicles, giving it a strong foothold in the world automobile market.
