Foreign mining company to begin operation

Gomoa-Oguaakrom (C/R) July 22, GNA- Holland Mining Service based in South Africa has re-affirmed its interest in an abandoned gold mine at Gomoa-Oguaakrom near Pomadzie in the Central Region. Mr. Moro Sowah, a representative of the company gave the assurance when he presented a cow and a sheep to the chiefs and elders of Gomoa-Oguaakrom at the weekend for the performance of the necessary customary rites for the work to begin before the end of the year. The Gomoa-Oguaakrom Gold Mines was abandoned by the British government, which worked on the site in 1948.

According to Mr. Sowah, directors of the company from South Africa would arrive in the country early next month to sign the necessary documents on the project. He said initially, the company would employ 200 workers and also help in the rehabilitating all dilapidated buildings in the town. Ms. Joyce Aidoo, Gomoa District Chief Executive (DCE) warned people operating galamsey mining business on the site to stop immediately to pave the way for HMS to commerce business.

She expressed the government's determination to welcome and support genuine investors like the HMS to operate business in Ghana to offer employment to jobless people. Speakers at the function included Mr. Frank Essel, former MP for Gomoa East in the Busia Regime, who assured the company of their co-operation and support to ensure its successful operation.
