Several trade associations, including the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF), are gearing up to intensify their protests against the excessive fees imposed by shipping lines operating in Ghana.

As part of their strategy to keep the pressure on, these groups are planning to picket the premises of various shipping companies in the coming days.

This latest move comes after their demonstration on September 24, 2024, and media campaigns aimed at exposing the negative impact of these exploitative charges on freight forwarders, importers, exporters, the general business community, and consumers.

Members of the associations, united in their cause, have been wearing red in protest and participating in marches to demand fair practices from the shipping lines.

However, information circulating suggests that the shipping companies are now trying to involve law enforcement to prevent the planned picketing. It is rumored that some shipping lines are inducing the police to stop the pickets, a tactic aimed at weakening the resolve of the associations.

Despite this development, the freight forwarders and their partner associations say they remain determined.

They have vowed that their resolve will not be broken by any attempts to obstruct their peaceful actions.

The leadership of the various groups has emphasized that their aim is to highlight the injustice of these fees and secure meaningful reforms.

With momentum building, the associations have reassured their members that they will continue the fight until there is a resolution that addresses the exploitative fees, which have long burdened the industry.

As tensions rise, the coming days will likely see an escalation in activities as the trade associations stand firm in their quest for fairness from the shipping lines.
