“I started my current business as a messenger and grew through the ranks, I was once a drivers mate, a pupils teachers, houseboy, selling doughnuts, kerosene but all of that is in the past now” Chief Executive Officer of McDan group, Daniel Mckorley has recounted.
Arguably one of the most successful businessmen in Ghana, Daniel Mckorley could only attain a degree 15 years, after dropping out of the University of Ghana.
He started the McDan Shipping Company which was established in November 1999, with its headquarters in Accra.
The McDan Shipping Company has presence in over 2000 major air and sea ports worldwide including Tema and Takoradi ports.
But before reaching this feat, Mr. Daniel Mckorley’s journey to success wasn’t challenge free.
“I was a trotro driver’s mate on the Accra-Madina route and I also went from office to office, selling books”, that was how he could afford decent clothes or pay his school fees.
Speaking at the 2017 SME CEOs Summit, Mr. McKorley noted that there are more opportunities in the business space now than there were in the past, urging Small and Medium Scale Enterprise (SMEs) to spot the opportunities and leverage on them.
“SMEs see more problems now than solutions, SMEs are the engine of growth in every economy. SMEs will succeed when they shift their focus to how to provide solutions” he said.
