GCNet to introduce data center to enhance operations

The Ghana Community Network Services (GCNet) says it has taken up huge investment in terms of building a new data centre geared towards improving their services and making the end user much more satisfied with the service that they provide.

The Training Manager of GCNet, Mr. Jonathan Ofori disclosed this at their quarterly engagement with stakeholders to showcase to them features of the data center and what it is expected to deliver.

The data center, according to him will improve GCNet’s engagement with stakeholders and facilitate trade.

“This year there have been significant investment in millions of dollars in terms of building a new data center and this is supposed to change the dynamics in terms of service delivery that we offer to the users to ensure that the users use the system without hitches. We will continue to engage with stakeholders that are operating in the port and make sure that we deliver and improve the regime for users in terms of electric facilitation,” he said.

The engagement, according to Jonathan Ofori also sought the input of stakeholders into changes or developments that are being introduced in addition to providing a collaborative environment for exchange of ideas.

“It provides opportunity for us to give them feedbacks on operational issues, new changes, they are also able to vent out their frustrations, while we take steps to address these issues that are raised,” he said.

The platform was used to address an introduction of a new requirement by the Environmental Protection Agency for application for chemicals which was said to be creating an operational challenges for importers.

The engagement was attended by officials from the customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority and stakeholders in the clearance chain.

Alfonse Wodi, the Human Resource Manager at GPHA said “this is about modern port management if the ports have skilled employees, then the port will be efficient, then the economics of developing countries will be good.”
