GECA against examination fees

Nana Addo Tetebo, Eastern Regional Chairman of the Ghana Electrical Contractors Association (GECA), has call on the Energy Commission to reduce the high fees for the electrical contractors certification examination.

He said the fees keep on rising for every examination and described the situation as worrying.

He called for a stable and moderate fee which would be affordable.

Nana Tetebo made the comments at the general meeting of the Regional branch of the GECA in Koforidua.

He said, the current fees charged for examination for certificate for wiring domestic houses is GHC300.00, while the certificate for wiring commercial properties goes for GHC400.00 and certificate for Industrial wiring is GHC500.00.

He said the participants are required to supply their own tools and materials for the training.

He explained that, under the current regulations, all electrical contractors are obliged to learn how to do proper inspection and testing of electrical installations to enhance the safety of equipment, properties and human lives.

Nana Tetebo, urged all wiring professionals to patronise the testing training to ensure fire free electrical installations in homes.

He congratulated the government and the Ghana Telecom University College and other relevant stakeholders who supported the training of 60 members from the Region to benefit from solar energy installation.
