GHACEM Limited, last weekend, honoured its top 100 distributors at a ceremony at the Crystal Rose Hotel, Kumasi.
Madam Akosua Dwomoh, Managing Director of Henwood Limited of Takoradi, received 1,000 bags of cement as her prize for being adjudged the best Ghacem distributor for 2002.
She and 19 other top Ghacem distributors received cement-prizes worth ?300 million. Eighty other deserving distributors received certificates of commendation.
The Managing Director of Ghacem, Mr. Bjarne Schmidt, announced that the company has initiated the introduction of a credit scheme for its distributors as from next year.
Ghacem has also established depots in Koforidua, Winneba, Hohoe, Madina, Kumasi, Sunyani, Tamale and Wa to "bring Ghacem products closer to the people through registered distributors."
A member of the Ghacem board, Mr. Kwesi Agbley, appealed to Government to ensure that imported cement enters the market "by the same taxation rules" in order to give Ghacem a level playing field on the market.
On behalf of the distributors, Nana Owusu Ansah, chairman of the Ashanti Cement Distributors Association, thanked Ghacem for bringing the second 2002 Distributors Award Nite to Kumasi.
