GHACEM invests GH¢6.5m in deprived communities

Nana Prah Agyensaim VI, Chairman of the Ghacem Cement Foundation, has disclosed that the foundation has since its establishment 12 years ago assisted rural or needy communities country-wide with about 400,000 free bags of cement at a market value of more than GH¢6.5million to rehabilitate or complete infrastructure in the education and health sector.

According to him, activities of the Ghacem Cement Foundation form an essential element of Ghacem Limited’s Corporate Social Responsibility which is aimed at assisting deprived communities to improve their health and educational infrastructures.

Nana Prah Agyensaim VI was speaking in Sunyani at a function where beneficiaries of this year’s Ghacem Cement Foundation free cement allocation scheme from the northern sector of the country were presented with donation letters for their free cement allocations.

The beneficiary schools and hospitals were drawn from the Northern Sector of the country, which comprises the Upper East, Upper West, Northern, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions.

Delivering his welcome address, the Strategy and Corporate Affairs Director of Ghacem, Dr. George Dawson-Ahmoah, commended the beneficiaries for their faith in the company which made them apply for the cement -- stressing that such commitment has the impetus of seeing development in their area.

GHACEM, he said, recognises the importance of supporting the good people of Ghana who have played their part in growing the company, thus the formation of the Ghacem Cement Foundation “was an important part of Ghacem’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme to assist deprived communities in improving their health and educational infrastructure.

Present at the ceremony were top Council Members of the GCF including the Chairman, Nana Prah Agyensaim VI; Dr. George Dawson-Ahmoah, Secretary to the foundation and also Strategy and Corporate Affairs Director of Ghacem; Professor Audrey Gadzekpo (Member); and Mr. Morten Gade, the Managing Director of Ghacem.

On her part, Professor Audrey Gadzekpo said the GCF priority on education brought much joy since development can only be assured with a well-educated citizenry. She encouraged other corporate organisations to follow the Ghacem example and ensure a gradual wiping away of schools under trees.
