Mr Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a cousin to the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has revealed that an amount of GHS1.6billion is available to pay all the 240 contractors owed by the government.
According to him, sources within the Ministry of Roads and Highways said all the contractors needed to do is to meet the bankers and sign up to be paid.
In a Facebook post on Friday 11 October, 2019, Mr Otchere-Darko, a former Executive Director of the Danquah Institute (DI) said: “My chanced encounter with a very perplexed source at Roads Ministry this morning (Friday) confirms there is cash available today, GHS1.6bn, to pay all 240 contractors owed GHS5m or less each by GoG (not Road Fund). But, here is the thing, he says.
'We are ready to pay them all in full (100% of what they are owed without discount from a bank facility). They can pick up their cash today, no sweat. All they have to do is to meet the bankers and sign up and yet they are not doing it. Only 63 have signed up. I don’t understand!'
