The search has begun to find social entrepreneurs with digital solutions to improve the lives of children and society.

Tigo Digital Change-makers is a partnership between telecom operator, Tigo and international non-governmental organisation, Reach for Change.

It is aimed at developing and encouraging social entrepreneurs to use technology to solve some of Ghana’s most pressing needs.

The two best entries will each receive GHS60, 000 (US$S20, 000), expert guidance and support to bring their business/dreams to life.

Head of Corporate Communications and CSR for Tigo Ghana, Gifty Bingley, says: “As a digital lifestyle brand, Tigo is putting more emphasis on using Information Communication Technology (ICT) for development. Technology is no longer an ordinary enabler, it is now central to the way we work and live.”

“Through Tigo Digital Change-makers, we want to use our technology to impact positively on development. In 2013, we had amazing Change leaders such as Regina Agyare of Soronko Solutions; and Erasmus Ackon and Marian Wiredu, both from IT4Teens who are using technology to overcome social and economic barriers to increase access to information and education, and empower children from deprived communities,” she explained.

For 2014, Tigo hopes to receive quality applications that demonstrate the potential in utilizing mobile broadband, digital and/or information technology to improve the quality of lives of children and other proposed projects.
