GJA holds workshop on financial and economic reporting

Accra, June 21, GNA - The first phase of three workshops on improved economic and financial reportage for journalists opens on Monday June 21, 2004 at the Ghana International Press Centre.

The nine months workshop to be organized by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) under the auspices of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), would host 30 financial and economic reporters from both the print and electronic media for the first phase. A statement signed by Mr Bright Blewu, GJA's General Secretary said the programme seeks to identify the challenges confronting the media in the pursuit of investigative reporting on financial and economic issues.

Besides, it aims at strengthening the ability of the media to contribute to dialogue, and provide informed analysis on financial and economic matters.

The statements said, a total of 100 journalists would be trained under the project, adding that similar workshops would be held in Takoradi and Kumasi.
