GNAG appeals to Kintampo Municipal Assembly for a new garage

The Kintampo branch of the Ghana National Association of Garages (GNAG) on Monday appealed to the Kintampo Municipal Assembly to develop a modern garage at Kintampo to enhance their business operations.

It expressed appreciation to the assembly for placing the Kintampo industrial site development on its medium term plan and expressed the hope that the new garage would be developed at the shortest possible time.

The association also reminded Mr Stephen Kunsu, Member of Parliament for Kintampo of his 2012 election campaign promise to use part of his share of the common fund to extend electricity and water to the new site.

Mr Stephen Waday, local Kintampo GNAG chairman, told newsmen it had more than 1,000 members and the old site had become congested.

He said the association had acquired 300 acres of land in the municipality and needed facilities such as electricity, water, access roads and sanitary facilities at the site to enable them move to the area.

Mr Waday said members of the association continued to receive threats from landlords to leave the old site because their activities posed threats to the life of residents in the area.

Mr Waday said the old site had turned into human settlement and the environment is contaminated with smoke emitting from their operations and chemicals fitters, engineers, wielders and sprayers use.

He said many of the members had lost their jobs and some had been ejected from the old site by landowners with others striving hard to remain in the business.

Mr Waday expressed the hope that the development of the new garage would ensure safety, increased profitability and expansion of business for sustainable local economic development.
