The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has called on the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) to rectified errors ranging from non-payment of salaries, reduction in salaries, non-payment of arrears and reduction in arrear of teachers..
A statement signed by Mr Peter Korda, Public Relations Officer of GNAT, copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday, said the association's attention has been drawn to various degrees of errors by the CAGD .
The GNAT said the situation was very disturbing and it had contacted the Ghana Education Service and the CAGD for explanation on the cause of the errors and what was being done to correct the anomalies to pave the way for effecting payment.
The statement said: “It is worthy of note that teachers are expressing disquiet about the situation and the GNAT finds their anger justifiable since their monies are being withheld without any explanation.”
The Statement said at a meeting between the GNAT and the CAGD on Monday 12th March, 2012, the "Controller gave an indication that the various errors have been detected and his outfit was working around the clock to rectify them" to ensure payment along side March 2012 salaries.
It said: “GNAT hopes that the Controller and Accountant General will keep his promise in order to assuage the pain of teachers in the country as they prepare our students for the Basic Education Certificate Examination and West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination"
