The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Kwame Ntow Amoah, has urged stakeholders in Ghana’s petroleum sector to move beyond mere compliance and focus on building local capability.

He described local content as a true measure of Ghana’s readiness to compete on the global stage.

Speaking at the opening of the 2025 Local Content Conference and Exhibition, Amoah on November 4, 2025, emphasised that local content must evolve beyond procurement thresholds and percentage targets.

“This shift must reflect local competence, capital, and innovation—key ingredients that will secure Ghana’s petroleum future,” he stated.

Amoah highlighted GNPC’s strategic efforts across both offshore and onshore basins, noting that the corporation’s work is part of a deliberate plan to achieve full operatorship.

He pointed to progress on the Voltaian Basin Project, which is bringing Ghana closer to drilling its first onshore well, a milestone that will signify the country’s technical maturity and operational independence.

He further stressed that GNPC’s operations, from offshore to inland basins, are gradually restoring control to Ghanaians.

“The opportunities in both existing offshore fields and the Voltaian Basin are creating new space for indigenous companies to thrive,” he added.

Amoah called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to develop robust policy and financing frameworks that will support Ghana’s energy transition.
