Tema, Jan. 22, GNA - The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has released land to the COCOBOD at the western gate of the Tema Port for the construction of cocoa sheds for the storage of cocoa meant for export.
Mr. Gorden Anim, Director of Tema Port who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday said at the moment there are two out of the four sheds in good condition for the storage at the port.
Each of the two storage sheds takes 10,000 metric tonnes of cocoa. The two other sheds which have deteriorated and no longer in use, will soon be pulled down.
Mr Anim said the demolition will take place by May, to give way for the site to be developed into container stacks (depot) and explained that, that will be an extension to quay two.
In response to customers' complaints about lack of port equipment, the Director of Port said three 45 metric tonnes reach stack estimated at 1.3 million dollars have been imported to add up to the nine, to make 12, the number of such heavy duty equipment now in use at the port for the stacking of containers.
The port has 13 of the 40 tonnes reach stack and with these containers, congestion at the port will be minimised.
