The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced a two-month amnesty for owners of uncustomed vehicles nationwide, allowing them to regularise their documents without penalties.

According to the GRA, the amnesty period will run from June 1 to July 31, 2026, and is aimed at encouraging voluntary compliance among persons using vehicles that were illegally imported into Ghana or have incomplete customs documentation.

In a public notice, the Customs Division explained that all penalties normally imposed when such vehicles are impounded will be waived during the amnesty period. Vehicle owners have therefore been urged to take advantage of the window to regularise their documents and avoid future sanctions.

The authority warned that after the expiration of the amnesty, a nationwide enforcement exercise will be launched to identify and seize uncustomed vehicles operating on roads across the country.

“The Customs Division will undertake a nationwide inspection of vehicles on the roads and impound all uncustomed vehicles,” the statement stressed.

The exercise forms part of efforts by the GRA to strengthen customs compliance, curb revenue losses, and clamp down on the illegal importation and use of vehicles in the country.

Motorists and vehicle owners have been advised to visit the nearest Customs offices within the two-month period to complete the necessary procedures and avoid having their vehicles confiscated during the planned nationwide operation.
