The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has reaffirmed its commitment to international safety standards, recording a landmark year without any major safety incidents in 2025.

The achievement was highlighted by Director of Technical Services, Vincent Boakye, at the Corporate Safety Durbar and Awards held at GRIDCo’s Kumasi Area Office, Nyieaso, on Friday.

Mr Boakye described the milestone as the result of vigilance, discipline, and adherence to best practices. He noted that GRIDCo is steadily aligning its safety culture with ISO 45001 compliance, the globally recognised standard for occupational health and safety management systems that helps organisations reduce risks, prevent workplace incidents, and embed a culture of continual improvement.

“We have completed a review of the standard protection code to reflect business changes and drive continual improvement. Clear standards and guidelines have also been developed to ensure uniformity and compliance across all installations nationwide,” he stated. He further announced upgrades to critical fire protection systems and hands-on training for staff and private security personnel to sharpen practical safety skills.

The durbar, GRIDCo’s annual platform for reinforcing safety culture, also recognized outstanding contributions. The Kumasi Area team won the coveted trophy in the inter-departmental safety quiz competition, while the Collaboration Award went to AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine.

Principal Technician Daniel Anim Danso emerged winner in the fire-fighting category.

GRIDCo’s Deputy Chief Executive, Frank Asirifi Otchere, emphasised the company’s critical role in Ghana’s energy sector, stressing that safety remains the foundation of operations.

He urged staff to consistently wear PPEs and respect workplace safety protocols, cautioning against underestimating the dangers of electricity.

The event was graced by solidarity messages from the military, police, fire service, and AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, commending GRIDCo’s leadership in safety and encouraging continued collaboration.
