GT expands services in Upper East Region

Bolgatanga, June 22, GNA - Telephone landline service in some districts of the Upper East Region including the Bolgatanga Municipality, has witnessed a major boost in recent times, following the expansion of the networks in those areas. A new exchange with a capacity of 9,000 lines has been installed in Bolgatanga to replace the old one which was capable of serving only 3,000 subscribers, while the number of lines for Bawku has also increased from 500 to 5,000 following the installation of a new machine.

Alhaji Awudu Musah, Regional Head of Ghana Telecom (GT) made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Bolgatanga. He said for about five years now, the main exchange in the regional capital had suffered tremendous congestion, and that the expansion would ease up the situation to allow more potential customers to be connected. He said the present Management of GT was sensitive to the issue of quality service, and that the Company had instituted measures to ensure that a situation whereby quality usually tended to deteriorate due to the subscription of more customers did not arise at all.

Alhaji Musah mentioned the installation of a Customer Access Network and the recent extension of One-Touch cell phone service to other parts of the region, including Bawku and Navrongo, as part of GT's agenda to make telephone service accessible to a wider segment of the nation's population. "As you can see, Ghana Telecom has not only broken the dominance of Spacefon in the cell phone business in terms of area coverage but is also outpacing its major competitor in the delivery of reliable quality service".
