GT extends web facility to New Juaben

Koforidua, July 20, GNA - Ghana Telecom (GT) has extended its newest web facility to residents in the New Juaben Municipality that is expected to help simplify business operations and governance in the Eastern Region.

The broadband facility, which is said to be the fastest dial-up to the 'World Wide Web' in Ghana presently, is to help provide residents access to a wide range of resources, services, and products. Launching the facility General Manager of GT in charge of Marketing Communications, Mr Joseph Wireko, said the state telecommunications giant was making the facility available to residents to help streamline their interaction with government agencies and provide information about government policies.

Other benefits to be derived from the facility, Mr Wireko said, were the simplification of corporate transactions that aid the economic development of c ompanies by creating new jobs and attracting new industries.

On the educational front, Mr Wireko said the pilot tests on the facility showed that it was capable of "overcoming geographical and financial barriers to provide access to a wide range of educational, cultural and recreational opportunities and resources.

The New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive Nana Adjei Boateng who launched the facility, admitted that easy access to the internet remained a major disturbing factor affecting economic development in the country and therefore welcomed the introduction of the facility. Nana Adjei Boateng commended the management of Ghana Telecom for introducing the facility that would serve as a catalyst in expanding educational and economic opportunities in the country. 20 July 07
