GT to embark on expansion programme in the North

Accra, Dec. 2, GNA- The Ghana Telecom (GT) Company will expand its fixed network by providing a minimum of 400,000 fixed lines by 2005 to enable it extend telephone services to every town with a Senior Secondary School, Teacher Training College or a University as part of the company's business plan.

Mr. Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of Communications, who was answering questions in Parliament on Tuesday said: "This roll-out expansion programme will facilitate the extension of telephone services to Mpaha, Yapei, Kusawgu, Sankpala and Fulfulso Junction all in the West Gonja District.

Alhaji Ali Amadu, NDC-Atebubu South, had asked on behalf of Alhaji Seidu Amadu, NDC-Yapei-Kusawgu, when the towns mentioned would enjoy telephone facilities.

Mr. Joseph Bayel, NDC-Sawla/Kalba, also wanted to find out when the telephone line systems at Tuna in the Bole District, which broke down over 18 months ago would be rehabilitated.

Mr. Kan-Dapaah said a purchase order was placed in November this year, for equipment to replace the broken down telephone system at Tuna.

"It is expected that the equipment will arrive within six months to enable GT repair the fault, " he said.
