GTA clamps down on unlicensed operators; Villagio Vista affected

The Ghana Tourism Authority Monday 3rd June 2019 embarked on an exercise to clamp down on facilities operating without the GTA requirements.

Facilities such as Villagio Vista and Airport Side Hotel were among the affected companies.

A notice of closure was given to the affected operators, one which gives them a 24-hour mandate to ensure the facilities meet up its requirements.

According to the Ghana Tourism Authority some facilities such as Hotels, Guest Houses, Restaurants, Pubs, Service Apartments, Movie Houses, Night Club, Car Rental Companies etc, which are known to be tourist attractions have no licence to operate.

CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority Mr Akwasi Agyemang, speaking to the media reemphasized that sanctions will be metted out to defaulting operators who fail to comply with the GTA requirements.

He also hinted that licensed operators who do not meet the GTA standards will not be pardoned.

Mr Akwasi Agyemang however warned operators in Ghana without the GTA requirements ensure they acquire license or face closure.

The exercise which began in Accra is to be carried out in other regions of the country.



Other regions are as follows:

Greater Accra 3rd - 7th June

Tema 10th – 11th June

Central 12th – 14th June

Western 14th – 17th June

Ashanti 18th – 21st June

Brong Ahafo 22nd – 25th June

Eastern 26th – 28th June

Volta 29th – 2nd July.
