The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has reminded the Nana Addo led administration to show commitment to fighting the influx of foreigners taking over retail business in the country.
Speaking to Rainbow Business News, Richmond Amamoo, the Director of Protocol for GUTA said, they are calling for the implementation of the GIPC law which bars foreigners from taking over the retail business.
He said, the development has impacted heavily on their operations. He charged government to rid Ghana’s retail market off foreigners.
He said, GUTA is not calling for any new thing or are we calling for anyone’s head to be cut off but we are calling for the implementation of the law.’’
Ghanaians he said cannot go to other countries and violate trade laws, by engaging in retail marketing reserved for residents in foreign countries adding, ‘’so why should foreigners or non-Ghanaians come into Ghana and flout our laws just like that?’’.
He said, the current administration promised to implement the law and so we want to remind them of their campaign promise. We want the law to be implemented that is what we want.’’
