Ga West Assembly spends more over income

Ga West Municipal Assembly, observed excess expenditure over income in the first-quarter of 2014. The total expenditure for the period from January to April amounted to GH¢ 774,687.90 representing 35.4 per cent.

The Assembly generated GH¢ 863,760 representing 39.5 per cent of the estimated internally generated fund of GH¢ 2,189,149, for the first-quarter. Mr Samuel Atukwei Quaye, Municipal Chief Executive, made this known when he presented the first-quarter report of the Executive Committee to the general assembly at Amasaman.

He said the committee noted that the excess expenditure was attributed to rentals, because equipment hired for demolition exercises were not budgeted for. The committee recommended that management should take the necessary steps to recover monies spent on the demolition exercise from property owners as required by law.

Mr Quaye said the revenue mobilisation is ongoing with Revenue Solutions (REVSOL) Ghana Limited, a private collector, although it is encountering a number of challenges from the communities. He said in view of this, the Finance and Administration Sub-committee of the Assembly would embark on a field monitoring exercise to facilitate the process.

“The committee recommends that REVSOL should adopt a strategy of a good community entry led by the assemblymen, to introduce the team to the communities.

“The committee suggests that management should see to release information vans from the Regional Information Service Department and also from the Municipal Electoral Commission Unit to assist the outsourcing company in educating the communities on the existence and activities of the company,” Mr Quaye said.
