Garment factory to be established in New Juaben

Koforidua, Oct. 26, GNA - Stakeholders at the sensitisation workshop on Rural Enterprise Development Programme(REDP) at Koforidua have chosen the establishment of a garment factory in the New Juaben Municipality as its priority under the government poverty reduction programme.

The participants said the Municipality had land and human resources that could support the project to have a rippling effect on the economy of the area and the country at large.

The New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Kwesi Adjei Boateng re-affirming the commitment of the Assembly to Public /Private partnership development process, said already private sector operatives were involved in the management of some markets in the Municipality and in the collection of commercial property rates.

He observed that a unique opportunity has been presented for the Municipal Assembly, other public bodies and the private sector to enter into partnership with the REDP.

Mr. Osei Ampofo of the Eastern Regional Office of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Presidential Initiatives explained that, the REDP was a new poverty reduction strategy developed by government to assist in the creation of employment through out the country under a private sector/community/government enterprises.

He said factories that would be established under the initiative would be export oriented, help in curbing the rural-urban drift and assist in rejuvenating the economies of the 110 districts in the country.

Among other projects selected for the New Juaben Municipality included the development of the Municipality into a tourist attraction particularly development of Kentenkeren water falls, Akyekyeso Crocodile Sanctuary, Obuotabiri bird View and the creation of green belts.
