Ghana Shippers Authority, Judicial Training Institute launch “The Admiral”, A Compendium

The Ghana Shippers Authority in collaboration with the Judicial Training Institute has launched “The Admiral”, a compendium.

The compendium is a compilation of papers delivered by experts in various subject areas of maritime law over a 10 year period.

The objective of producing the Admiral which is a compilation of maritime law papers delivered a 10 year period, is to provide a quick reference source for judges of the superior courts of Ghana and legal practitioners and to ensure quality judicial interpretations and adjudication of disputes on maritime issues.

The Minister of Transport, Kweku Ofori Asiamah believes the Admiral, is a massive contribution made to the development of maritime law in the country.

He said the recent discovery of oil and gas and its exploitation offshore brings about some legal implications which requires readily available and reliable reference source as well as training of the judiciary.

The CEO of Ghana Shippers Authority, Dr. Kofi Mbiah said it is important to deepen the level of technological penetration, develop full automated and integrated port clearance system that permits the sharing and utilisation of relevant trade and transport information to improve the level of efficiency in the maritime industry.

Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame said the book will facilitate the human resource capacity for the understanding of complex and intricate transport and maritime issues.

The Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora Wood who launched the book said judges will now be in a good position to adjudicate international maritime trade and transport disputes with the help of the Admiral.
