A committee set up to investigates certain allegations has identified two areas which are making Ghana Telecom lose at least 45.25bn (over $ 5.1m) a month.
It says Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) used to illegally terminate international incoming telephone calls depriving GT. of a monthly income of over ?45 billion.
The free use of services by staff, ex-staff, current and former Board Members results in average revenue loss of ?250 million a month, the paper added.
Sources at the Ministry of Communications hinted DAILY DISPATCH that following it exposure of how certain GT. employees use customers? phone lines to make illegal calls and pocket the monies, Mr. Edward Dua Agyemang, the Auditor-General set up a multi-faceted committee to investigate the allegations.
Findings of the committee were ?mind boggling? and the paper mentioned Contract personnel on attachment to the Engineering Section Installation, Survey, Customer Services Point and Test Room as where illegal connections could be done.
Also, code numbers usually known to only the GT. technical staff for operational purposes are identified and access gained for free telephone calls.
What was even more interesting was that a telephone number, 716609 at Teshie-Nugua, allocated to the AG was diverted to a communication centre among others.
